URGENT LETTER FROM A VOLUNTEER
URGENT ATTENTION PLEASE: I am a volunteer and member of FRIENDS OF THE BOHEMIA, INC (FOB). FOB is in need of new leadership, as the current board has served since 2014 and would now like to hand the reins over to other like-minded individuals who have a passion for the beautiful nature we have all around us in the Bohemia River Watershed area.
Without new people stepping up to provide leadership – the FOB is set to dissolve its organization in September – so immediate consideration is needed to keep this important group going. FOB currently has a Treasurer and a potential Secretary. Immediate needs are a President and two other Board members, and volunteers. Please send any questions and all inquiries to friendsofthebohemia@gmail.com or klphelps78@gmail.com.
This group has had an important impact on keeping the watershed clean by measuring the water quality over the years, with 2018 having an overall rating of “C;” as well as holding trash pickup dates manned by volunteers a few times a year. Most importantly, they provide watershed education for the surrounding communities to help reduce our human impact. Much work is still to be done, especially with the new state park that recently opened in Earleville, MD.
DID YOU KNOW? That the Bohemia River starts in Middletown, DE as the Great Bohemia Creek, and the Little Bohemia Creek starts near Warwick, MD. They flow together to form the Bohemia River, which then merges into the Elk River before flowing into the Chesapeake Bay. The area this watershed covers is a total of 35,369 acres.
Friends of the Bohemia, Inc is a 501(c)(3) Nonprofit Organization incorporated in 2015 as a Watershed Improvement Association (Water Resource, Wetlands Conservation and Management).
Thank you for your interest and consideration.

UPDATE: FRIENDS OF THE BOHEMIA PLANS TO WIND DOWN
Friends of the Bohemia (FOB) is so grateful for the continued support of our community since our inception in 2014. Two years ago, the Board of Directors decided that a change of leadership was needed. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and other challenges, the changes made were not sustainable and we have been largely dormant, remaining in a state of transition. The Board now finds that it needs to make difficult decisions.
Without success, we have explored various options, including possible mergers with other watershed associations.
New Board members and leadership are necessary for FOB to continue. Unless interested parties step forward by September 2022, the Board of Directors will begin the formal legal process of corporate dissolution. As a result of this situation, FOB will not be accepting financial donations going forward, and has no events planned.
It has been a good run. As a community, we have come together to care for and love the Bohemia River. A new chapter is necessary.
If you are passionate about our beautiful river and are interested in taking the reins to preserve this organization, please contact us via email at friendsofthebohemia@gmail.com.

FRIENDS OF THE BOHEMIA SEEKS NEW LEADERSHIP
Friends of the Bohemia (FOB) has an exciting opportunity for folks who want to increase their impact in making our environment and community as robust and healthy as it can be. The terms of a few directors and officers, including the President, have come to an end and the organization faces a cross road. We need new leaders! Without a new President, FOB will be wrapping up a few remaining items to which it has committed, and then begin the legal process to dissolve the organization. Anyone who is interested in serving is urged to contact Chuck Foster at 443-566-3513, or via email at friendsofthebohemia@gmail.com.
Formed over five years ago, this all-volunteer, nonprofit watershed association has done great things with tremendous support from Cecil County, the State of Delaware, donors and volunteers. FOB has sampled water quality in the Bohemia River and communicated the results, engaged the community and raised awareness of environmental issues, worked with school students and educators, and partnered on in-ground projects to reduce the amount of pollution flowing into the Bohemia River and the Chesapeake Bay. Hundreds of FOB volunteers have removed tons of trash from the watershed, and have learned about the importance of preserving and protecting the beautiful world around us. Come be a part of that so FOB can move forward and continue its mission!
