About Friends of the Bohemia
Friends of the Bohemia, Inc. is an all-volunteer non-profit corporation founded in 2015. Our mission is to thoughtfully and carefully advocate for the Bohemia River, to give the silent waterway a voice in its watershed communities, and dedicate our actions to fostering a cooperative legacy of learning, studying, communicating, protecting and improving the waterway and the water quality for all future generations.
Our team includes people from a wide spectrum of interests, including homeowners, year-round and seasonal residents, marina operators and other business people, farmers, and recreational visitors. Everyone benefits from having clean, healthy water and we can all do our part to make sure our beautiful river is the best it can be.
We are partnering with the Chesapeake Bay Trust, Cecil County and its Watershed Stewards Academy and Senior Environment Corps initiatives, Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, ShoreRivers, Inc., Elk and North East Rivers Watershed Association and other watershed groups to develop programs that will help us identify issues within our watershed and work on solutions. We want to do our part to ensure our community gets the education it needs to make good choices and comes together to take action in a spirit of fun and cooperation.
Looking toward the future, we plan to generate a formal Watershed Action Plan that will help prioritize projects and focus our efforts. The data collected by our water-quality sampling program, along with the results of a detailed Watershed Assessment should assist in that process.
